One pedestrian, the new sinks are gorgeous and glam.

No longer simply a trough for toothbrushes, sinks have recently been spotted making the leap from functional object to sensual experience. Now, they're sexy affairs that satisfy your every wish and desire. Of course they're still practical, but they could stop traffic with their looks. Here are four designer favorites from this latest home spa trend that have one thing in common: an unspoken invitation to come hither.

This Daliesque twist on a modernist dressing table comes courtesy of Jaime Hayon for the design-forward Spanish company ArtQuitect. The young designer's star turn resulted in a streamlined ceramic sink finished in precious metals that playfully incorporates a corner lamp on a four-legged table with slightly splayed legs (above). Available in yellow, white, black, platinum or gold, it's all about elegance even as it gently flirts with camp. Prices start at $7000, aqhayoncollection.com.

So rarely does glass get elevated above its conventional iterations of vases, wine glasses and eyeglasses. How often do you really stop and stare at their bland uniformity? By contrast, this free-standing column wash basin made with 310° curved plates in transparent crystal will likely have you slack-jawed—making it all the easier to brush your teeth. Designed by Piero Lissoni for Boffi (1). Prices start at $3023, boffi.com.

Anyone can drill a hole in a top hat, plumb it and decree it innovative sink design. The genius of Ross Lovegrove's MOD pedestal base and sink for VitrA (2) is that it manages to both astonish with its minimalist design and its functionality, thanks to economical water use and adaptability to compact spaces. Available this winter in bamboo, aluminum grey, green and white for approx. $1,000, vitra-usa.com.

Stone Forest's Moso Bamboo Vessel (3) is a rectangular bamboo sink reminiscent of a diminutive Japanese soaking tub. Crafted from sustainable bamboo, each sink is handmade and consequently becomes a genuine one-off art sculpture for your bathroom. Prices start at $700,
